NDC deceived Ghanaians with 24-hour economy policy – NPP Communicator

Government urged to implement actual 24-hour economy policy promised to Ghanaians

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Francis Bugase, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over what he described as deception surrounding the implementation of its much-publicised 24-hour economy policy.

According to him, the introduction of the 24-hour economy model markets in several districts across the country is merely an attempt to cover up what he termed the failure of the party’s broader campaign promise, which was aimed at creating an economy that operates in three shifts to generate more employment opportunities.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, May 13, Bugase said the NDC had failed to deliver on its pledge to Ghanaians.

“This is a robbery of the votes of Ghanaians. Prior to the 2024 general elections, one of the major promises captured in their manifesto was the 24-hour economy policy, which we were told would focus on shift systems to create jobs for the youth. Today, it has been reduced to a model market initiative,” he stated.

Bugase further questioned the source of funding for the initiative, aside from the reported 25 per cent allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

He urged the government to be bold enough to implement the actual policy it promised, insisting that many young people, including trained teachers, nurses, and graduates in other sectors, remain unemployed.

According to him, the growing unemployment situation reflects the government’s lack of commitment to fulfilling its promise to create sustainable jobs for the youth.

“They have introduced the 24-hour economy model market because they do not have any convincing explanation for Ghanaians, and they are unable to establish the actual 24-hour economy policy they promised,” he added.
