TUSAAG announces resumption of indefinite strike over delayed research allowance

TUSAAG says members will withdraw their services indefinitely after government failed to meet agreed timelines for the payment of a research allowance and related commitments.

The Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced the resumption of its indefinite strike action, citing government’s failure to honour commitments to pay a one-time research allowance.

In a notice addressed to the Minister for Education and dated July 13, the Association said the decision was taken by its National Council at a meeting held on July 9, 2026. The strike, which had been suspended on December 22, 2025, following the Minister’s intervention, will now resume due to delays in fulfilling agreed commitments.

According to TUSAAG, the Minister had assured the Association that the research allowance would be paid by March 30, 2026. Following the expiration of that deadline, a subsequent meeting on March 31 reportedly pushed the payment timeline to the end of April 2026.

However, the Association said that as of July 13, 2026, it had still not received a clear indication of when the allowance would be paid, despite exercising patience and acting in good faith.

TUSAAG further noted that on April 22, 2026, the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and TUSAAG signed an agreement with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on an interim market premium allowance for non-teaching senior members of public and technical universities.

The Association maintains that the delay in implementing the agreement has left members with no option but to resume the industrial action.

The Association is urging the Ministry of Education and all relevant stakeholders to expedite action on the outstanding payments to bring the impasse to an end and restore normal administrative activities across Ghana’s technical universities.

The resumption of the strike is expected to affect administrative operations in technical universities nationwide as TUSAAG members withdraw their services pending the resolution of their concerns.
