Unemployment is a big issue in Navrongo – MP

He, however, expressed optimism that the presence of tertiary educational institutions in the area would play a vital role in equipping young people with employable skills.

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Akibange Aworigo, has raised concerns over the growing rate of unemployment in the constituency, describing it as a pressing issue that demands immediate and coordinated action.

Speaking during an interview on Citi FM’s Point Blank program also broadcast live on Mike FM, Aworigo stated his commitment to addressing the unemployment challenge.

He, however, expressed optimism that the presence of tertiary educational institutions in the area would play a vital role in equipping young people with employable skills.

“There’s high unemployment rate in Navrongo, and we must act urgently. Fortunately, our local tertiary institutions can help to equip the people with employable skills,” the MP stated.

Aworigo also underscored the critical role of education in driving development, promising to invest significantly in the sector.

“We have primary basic schools and about five senior high schools. We also have a nursing training college and St John Bosco’s college of education. We also have the CK Tedam University. I intend to work to improve education in the area,” he said.

Beyond education and employment, the MP bemoaned the lack of basic social amenities, including electricity and potable water, as major setbacks to the area’s socio-economic growth in parts of the constituency.

He stressed the need to extend such essential services to underserved communities to stimulate development.

“In some areas, we don’t have electricity. Access to water is still a problem in some areas. I know about two boreholes that I have provided. I know about one in Gia and one in Pungu, but they have all dried up,” he noted.

Aworigo expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Navrongo Central for their continued support and pledged to work closely with all stakeholders to bring tangible development to the area.

“I greet the good people of Navrongo. I greet the chiefs and the landlords, I agree the men and the women and everyone in my constituency, ” He said in both Kasem and Nankani.
