Upper East NACOC donates to Presbyterian Psychiatric Hospital on World Drug Day

The Upper East Regional Command of NACOC has donated food items, toiletries, cleaning supplies and clothing to the Presbyterian Psychiatric Hospital in Bolgatanga to support the treatment and rehabilitation of persons with substance use disorders.

The Upper East Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has donated food items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and clothing to the Presbyterian Psychiatric Hospital in Bolgatanga as part of activities marking this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, commonly known as World Drug Day.

The Commission said the donation forms part of its commitment to fostering partnerships with institutions dedicated to the treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of persons affected by substance use disorders.

Items donated included detergents, soaps, toiletries, assorted beverages, bread, brooms, dustbins, gloves, hand sanitizers, mops, buckets, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bags of sachet water, and clothing.

Presenting the items on behalf of the Commission on Thursday, June 25, the Upper East Regional Commander, Senior Narcotics Control Officer (SNCO) Abdul-Aziz Saeed, said the gesture reflects NACOC’s commitment to supporting individuals battling substance use disorders on their journey to recovery.

“Beyond enforcement, the Commission believes in supporting people suffering from substance use disorders. One of the ways we can do this is through initiatives such as this, which contribute to their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society,” he said.

SNCO Saeed commended the longstanding partnership between NACOC and the Presbyterian Psychiatric Hospital and expressed optimism that the collaboration would continue to yield positive outcomes.

Speaking on the significance of the donation, the Acting Head of Education at the Regional Command, Assistant Narcotics Control Officer (ANCO) Jennifer Abedi, said the Commission recognized the important role the facility plays in the treatment and recovery of persons affected by substance abuse.

“We have come to support the hospital with a few items to assist in the care of people suffering from substance use disorders. We believe that helping them recover and reintegrate into society is essential for the well-being of our communities,” she stated.

She noted that the donation was a demonstration of compassion and solidarity with patients as the world commemorates World Drug Day.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Nurse-in-Charge, Vida Agongo, expressed appreciation to the Commission for its generosity and continued support.

“On behalf of the Psychiatric Specialist, management, staff, and patients of the Presbyterian Psychiatric Hospital, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Narcotics Control Commission for this donation,” she said.

Agongo praised the Commission for its consistent support and noted that the donated items would significantly contribute to improving the welfare and comfort of patients at the facility.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed annually on June 26 to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote collective efforts toward prevention, treatment, and recovery.
