Godfred Awinedolima Apolala has unveiled a research-centred agenda for graduate students as he campaigns for the presidency of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS).
In a press statement, Apolala said his vision is to build a postgraduate system that provides students with the support, representation, and opportunities needed to successfully complete their academic programmes.
According to him, graduate education is largely research-driven, yet many postgraduate students face challenges including limited access to research facilities, high research costs, delays in thesis approval processes, and inadequate academic support.
To address these concerns, Apolala pledged to pursue strategic partnerships between GRASAG UTAS and research institutions, with a key focus on securing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC).
He explained that the partnership would seek to improve access to research facilities, laboratory services, mentorship, and other resources to enhance the quality of postgraduate research.
He also announced plans to introduce a graduate research progress tracking and support system to enable students to monitor the progress of their research proposals, theses, and dissertations from approval through completion. He said the initiative would help reduce delays by providing timely updates and improving access to institutional support.
Apolala further pledged to advocate for a fair and structured research extension framework for graduate students who encounter genuine academic challenges.
He said his administration would engage university authorities to establish transparent guidelines that would allow deserving students additional time to complete their research without compromising academic standards.
The GRASAG presidential hopeful also promised to champion stronger research support mechanisms, including initiatives to assist students with data collection, access to academic resources, and other research-related expenses.
He emphasised that his leadership would be guided by collaboration, transparency, and accountability, stressing that GRASAG should go beyond representation to become a platform that delivers practical solutions and empowers every postgraduate student to succeed.
