Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly intensifies revenue mobilisation drive, targets business operators
Municipal Assembly locks defaulting shops as it steps up revenue collection to boost local development and service delivery.
The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly has intensified its revenue mobilisation efforts with an enforcement exercise aimed at improving internally generated revenue by ensuring businesses comply with their statutory obligations.
The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustina Akeyom Abulu, took place on Friday, July 31, and involved senior management staff of the Assembly, Assembly Members and personnel from the security agencies.
The team visited selected business premises across the municipality to educate traders and business owners on the importance of paying their rates and levies while encouraging them to fulfil their revenue obligations in support of local development.
As part of the operation, some shops belonging to businesses that had failed to meet their revenue obligations were temporarily locked in line with the Assembly’s revenue enforcement measures.
Abulu stressed that internally generated funds (IGF) are critical to the delivery of essential public services, infrastructure development and the overall socio-economic growth of the municipality.
She appealed to all business operators within the municipality to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying their rates and levies promptly to avoid sanctions.
The Municipal Chief Executive further disclosed that the Assembly would continue to undertake similar revenue mobilisation and enforcement exercises in the coming weeks, assuring residents that the operations would be carried out fairly, transparently and without fear or favour.
