GES interdicts two watchmen over alleged sexual assault at Bolgatanga Girls SHS

The GES says the two watchmen have been handed over to the Police for investigations and could face further sanctions depending on the outcome of the case.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student of the school.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, the GES said it had received a disturbing report concerning the alleged incident and that the two watchmen had since been arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigations.

According to the Service, preliminary reports indicate that the student is a special needs student who is on medication. The student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident and required medical attention, during which period the alleged assault occurred.

The GES said management has interdicted the two watchmen with immediate effect as investigations into the matter continue.

It added that, depending on the outcome of the investigations, appropriate sanctions would be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

The Service has also cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student.

The GES further assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves, stressing that it will not tolerate conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students.
