Communications Team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Francis Xavier Adams, says the 50 nomination forms purchased by aspirants for the party’s 2026 national officers’ elections demonstrate a strong willingness among members to serve and contribute to the party’s reorganisation.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, August 24, Adams described the NPP’s internal elections so far as peaceful, saying members had demonstrated unity and maturity throughout the process.
He said the conduct of the elections from the polling station level through the constituency and regional stages showed that party members were putting the interests of the NPP ahead of individual ambitions.
According to him, the close of nominations has now paved the way for the party to proceed with vetting and the subsequent stages of electing its national officers.
“It tells you people are ready to serve the party, people are ready to reorganize, to engage in the reorganization process,” he said.
Adams maintained that the number of aspirants was evidence that party members were willing to offer themselves for leadership and play a role in strengthening the party ahead of the next phase of its political activities.
He also rejected claims that the NPP’s leadership selection process was influenced by social class, insisting that the party provides opportunities for members who are willing to serve to contest its internal positions.
“We don’t deal with class; we deal with members who are willing to serve the party,” he stated.
Adams said delegates would ultimately have the opportunity to determine who should lead the party, rather than leadership positions being reserved for individuals from particular social or political backgrounds.
Defending the record of the previous NPP administration, he argued that some initiatives introduced or advanced under the party continued to benefit Ghanaians.
He cited the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability and digital health systems as examples of initiatives he said had contributed to transforming access to public and financial services.
Adams also defended the NPP’s decision to organise its national leadership elections after electing its flagbearer, arguing that the party had valid reasons for adopting the approach.
He said the NPP was not required to justify its internal organisational strategy to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stressing that the party would continue with its reorganisation process.
Adams said the NPP would, alongside its internal reorganisation, continue to engage Ghanaians on its record and future plans, insisting that the party’s internal processes should ultimately be determined by its members and judged by the electorate.
