Upper East region declared ready to host 33rd CODE annual conference
The Upper East Region has been declared ready to host the 33rd Annual CODE Conference, with organisers now focusing on sponsorship and final preparations.
The Upper East Region has been declared ready to host the 33rd Annual Conference of the Conference of Directors of Education (CODE), scheduled for Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23, 2026.
The National Executives of CODE, led by the National President, Director Ibrahim Mumuni, together with some executives of the Upper East Regional branch, paid a courtesy call on the Regional Director of Education (RDE), Mr. Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, on Monday, September 14, 2026, as part of preparations towards the conference.
The visit was to update the RDE on the team’s findings following an inspection of facilities and preparations on the ground, as well as highlight some of the key areas that the Region needs to address ahead of and during the conference.
Briefing the RDE, the National CODE President expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of the Region, declaring that, “after inspecting the facilities, UER is ready to host this year’s conference.”
In his response, the RDE welcomed the National CODE team and thanked them for the visit and the confidence reposed in the Upper East Region. He assured the delegation that Management of the Regional Education Directorate would work assiduously and to the best of its ability to ensure that the Region successfully hosts the conference.
“We will work assiduously and to the best of our ability to ensure that the Region hosts it well,” the RDE assured, adding that the Region would seek to improve on the standards set during the 2023 CODE Annual Conference hosted by the Upper West Region.
One key issue that emerged during the engagement was sponsorship. CODE will require the support of businesses and other corporate stakeholders within the Upper East Region to successfully host the conference. The expected participation of businesses is also seen as an opportunity for local enterprises to showcase their products and services to the numerous delegates and visitors expected in the Region.
The 33rd Annual CODE Conference is being held under the theme: “From Policy to Classroom: District Leadership for Quality Learning Outcomes and 21st Century Skills for National Development.” The conference is expected to attract the President of the Republic of Ghana, the Minister for Education and other high-profile dignitaries.
The hosting of the conference is also expected to provide an opportunity for the Upper East Region to showcase its renowned hospitality, culture, tourism and economic potential. With effective organization and the expected influx of delegates, businesses across the Region, particularly those in the smock industry, craft production and the guinea fowl value chain, could benefit significantly from the conference.
Delegates are also expected to have the opportunity to explore some of the Region’s major tourist attractions. These include the Paga Crocodile Pond and the Pikworo Slave Camp in the Kasena-Nankana West District, the Tenzug Shrine in the Talensi District, and the Tono and Vea Dams in the Kasena-Nankana Municipal and Bongo District respectively, among other attractions.
The hosting of the conference therefore presents the Upper East Region with an opportunity not only to showcase its readiness and leadership in education but also to promote its tourism, culture and local businesses to a national audience.
With the Region now declared ready by the National CODE leadership, attention is expected to focus on the remaining preparations, particularly mobilizing sponsorship and strengthening collaboration among the various stakeholders to ensure a successful 33rd Annual CODE Conference.
