Joseph Aminini defends government’s position on CRC recommendations
NDC’s Joseph Aminini says modifications to some CRC proposals should not be seen as rejection, stressing that the review process involved nationwide consultations.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Joseph Aminini, has defended the government’s handling of the Constitutional Review Committee’s (CRC) recommendations, insisting that the government’s position on some of the proposals should not be interpreted as outright rejection.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, September 18, Aminini said some of the committee’s recommendations had been modified during the review process to reflect the government’s position.
He also rejected suggestions that the committee failed to adequately consult Ghanaians before presenting its recommendations.
According to him, the committee engaged Parliament, civil society organisations and communities across the country as part of its consultation process.
“They consulted Parliament, civil society organisations and went around the whole country and did their consultative work,” Aminini said.
He disputed the NPP’s characterization of the government’s position as a wholesale rejection of the committee’s recommendations, arguing that several proposals had instead been reviewed and modified.
Aminini further said the Constitutional Review Committee remained involved in the process and was cooperating with the government to ensure that the review exercise proceeded smoothly.
He urged Ghanaians to look beyond the political disagreements surrounding the review process and support efforts aimed at strengthening and improving Ghana’s constitutional framework.
