Achan-Yeri Assembly Member urges responsible cultural representation by content creators

Assembly Member urges content creators to portray culture accurately, warning that misleading representations can distort identity and harm community image.

The Assembly Member for the Achan-Yeri Electoral Area in the Builsa North Municipality, Stephen Ayaagutika, has called on content creators to use their platforms to project their culture in a positive and accurate light.

According to him, culture is a defining element that unites a people, and any negative or misleading representation can create disaffection and distort public perception.

Ayaagutika made the remarks on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Tuesday, April 28, while reacting to a viral TikTok video in which a young woman allegedly suggested that women in parts of the Builsa area are freely given out in marriage.

Describing the claims as misleading, he urged caution when addressing sensitive cultural issues, stressing the need for responsibility in content creation.

“Anytime you want to create content, please try to project your culture in the right way. Do not pick and choose aspects that mislead people.” He said.

He further advised content creators to conduct thorough research and verify their facts before producing content related to culture, emphasizing that accuracy and respect are essential in preserving the dignity and identity of communities.
