I will prioritise skills training to empower women when given the nod – NDC Deputy Women Organiser hopeful

Monica Bakiva says she will introduce practical skills training, access to financial support and greater inclusion of tertiary student women in party activities if elected as NDC Upper East Regional Deputy Women Organiser.

Monica Bakiva, an aspirant for the position of Upper East Regional Deputy Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to prioritise skills training and economic empowerment programmes for women in the region if elected.

She said the initiative would equip women, particularly those with limited economic opportunities, with practical skills to generate income, improve their livelihoods and support their families.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday October 29, Bakiva said women played critical economic and social roles that required deliberate support, noting that many were the primary breadwinners in their households.

“Majority of the women are breadwinners. If you get a group of women and you are able to take them through liquid and cake soap making, weaving, and support them with loans through appropriate institutions, it will help them put food on the table and support their families,” she said.

She further pledged to prioritise the inclusion of Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) women commissioners from the various campuses in the party’s women-related activities to strengthen their participation and involvement in party affairs.

Highlighting her experience and commitment to the NDC, Bakiva cited her previous service as a TEIN executive member during her tertiary education, a member of the Regional Research Committee of the party’s Youth Wing and a member of the Electoral Directorate Committee.

She described her decision to contest as a reflection of her longstanding commitment and passion for serving the party.

“I have always gone all out for my party, no matter what. So, because of the passion and interest I have in always serving, I chose to be part of this contest,” she stated.

Bakiva congratulated constituency women organisers who were recently elected and encouraged those who were unsuccessful not to lose hope but to regard the contest as a learning experience and remain committed to the party.

She also called on delegates to support her candidature, expressing confidence that her election would enable her to contribute meaningfully to the empowerment of women and the overall development of the party in the Upper East Region.
