Upper East Economic Forum offers opportunity for transformation – Alfred Aliah

NDC communicator urges stakeholders to focus on infrastructure, peace and inclusive development ahead of regional economic forum.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Alfred Aliah, has called on residents and key stakeholders across the Upper East Region to actively participate in the upcoming Upper East Economic Development Forum, describing it as a critical platform for charting a sustainable path towards the region’s transformation.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, June 17, Aliah commended the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Minister for spearheading what he described as a non-partisan initiative aimed at fostering inclusive growth and accelerating development across the region.

According to him, economic forums provide valuable opportunities for stakeholders to assess development challenges, identify investment prospects, shape policy directions, and strengthen partnerships necessary for sustainable economic growth.

Aliah identified poor road infrastructure as one of the major obstacles to the region’s development and urged participants at the forum to prioritize practical strategies to improve road connectivity and facilitate economic activities across communities.

He also highlighted challenges in the areas of healthcare and education, as well as the growing concern over youth involvement in substance abuse.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of promoting peace and social cohesion among the diverse ethnic groups within the region.

“Development cannot thrive in the absence of peace, quality healthcare and adequate educational infrastructure,” he noted.

Aliah further encouraged traditional authorities, development partners, business leaders, civil society organizations and residents to contribute meaningfully to discussions during the forum to ensure that the outcomes reflect the aspirations and needs of the people.

He expressed optimism that the forum would generate actionable recommendations and measurable outcomes capable of driving long-term socio-economic progress, rather than producing a report that remains unimplemented.

“We are all interested in the betterment of this region. It’s not everything that we have to politicize. Let’s all come on board and see what we can do for the development of the Upper East Region,” Aliah stated.
