Abowinum Atogiwinum Donald files nomination for NPP Navrongo Central youth organiser race
Aspiring NPP Youth Organiser promises stronger grassroots mobilisation, youth empowerment and the creation of a Constituency Youth Secretariat to drive victory in 2028.
Donald Abowinum has officially filed his nomination to contest for the position of Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, pledging to strengthen grassroots youth mobilisation and help position the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Abowinum submitted his nomination forms on Wednesday, June 24, at the NPP Party Office in Navrongo, marking his entry into the constituency-level contest for the first time.
Speaking shortly after filing his nomination, the aspiring Youth Organiser said his decision to contest was inspired by his passion for youth leadership and his belief that the party’s youth wing remains a critical force in regaining political power.
“The youth front is what will break the door between victory and opposition,” he said. “If you cannot speak the language of the youth, you cannot attract them to the party.”
Abowinum cited his previous leadership experiences, including serving in student leadership roles and contesting in local government elections, as evidence of his ability to mobilise young people and build effective political structures.
A key component of his campaign agenda is the establishment of a Constituency Youth Secretariat, which he says will serve as a platform for youth engagement, communication, and leadership development across all 35 electoral areas within the constituency.
According to him, the proposed structure will decentralise youth activities and ensure that young party members at the grassroots level are actively involved in decision-making processes.
“We are going to make sure all the youth feel part of the constituency. Whatever decision is made, they will be involved and represented through a well-organised youth structure,” he explained.
Beyond party organisation, Abowinum outlined plans to identify talented young people within the constituency and support them through capacity-building initiatives, including opportunities in media engagement, political communication, and leadership training.
He also highlighted youth unemployment as one of the major concerns facing the constituency and pledged to advocate for greater access to government opportunities, entrepreneurial support programmes, and skills development initiatives.
While acknowledging the contributions of the current Youth Organiser, Abowinum said his campaign is focused on building upon existing achievements rather than criticising past leadership.
“He did very well as a Youth Organiser. I want to take from what has been done and introduce another angle of operation and vision,” he stated.
Expressing confidence in his chances, Abowinum said he believes his grassroots connections and understanding of the constituency place him in a strong position ahead of the contest.
He called on delegates and party members to support his candidacy, describing himself as a committed and hardworking party loyalist prepared to dedicate his time and energy to strengthening the NPP’s youth base.
“I am prepared to leave my sleep and work around the clock for the party. I know the constituency, I know the polling stations, and I know the work that must be done for victory in 2028,” he said.
The upcoming constituency elections are expected to determine the leadership that will guide the party’s youth mobilisation efforts in the Navrongo Central Constituency ahead of the next general elections.
