Ahmed Suale’s Murder: GJA reiterates decision to seek justice from ECOWAS court

The GJA had previously given an ultimatum of the end of March 2025 to proceed to the regional bloc’s court if concrete action is not taken.

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has reiterated its decision to proceed to the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice to seek a resolution to the murder case of slain investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

The GJA had previously given an ultimatum of the end of March 2025 to proceed to the regional bloc’s court if concrete action is not taken.

However, this stance was delayed due to the arrest of a suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, on March 19, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 23, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said the association is following the development regarding the arrest but is still not privy to many issues surrounding the case.

The association has called on the Ghana Police Service to provide periodic briefings on the case.

“So far, our efforts to get clarity on those issues from the Police have not been successful. We call on the Police to update the public on the case through periodic briefings, given the huge public interest in this case, both at the national and international levels.” He said.

Dwumfour emphasised the GJA’s commitment to seeking justice for Ahmed Suale, saying it will seek external intervention if the case remains stalled.

“We will only shift from our position when we are totally convinced that justice is at hand. In that regard, we wish to repeat our resolve to proceed to the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice to seek resolution of this matter.” Dwumfour added.

Ahmed Suale’s murder occurred on January 16, 2019, at Madina in the Greater Accra Region, after he collaborated with the BBC on an investigative exposé on football in Africa.
