Residents of Bembisi in Nabilingo Electoral Area in the Kassena Nankana West District are appealing to government to upgrade the Kassena Nankana East Health Center at Bembisi into a Polyclinic to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
The call was made during the commissioning of a new ten-bed children’s ward at the facility on Wednesday, September 17, an initiative funded through the internally generated funds of the Health Center.
Speaking to Mike FM after the event, the Assembly Member of Nabilingo Electoral Area, Aloore Albert Ayeriga, said the health centre, though the first established in the East Zone, has not seen any elevation in its status over the years despite serving several communities.
“We are very happy with the new ward, but notwithstanding, there are many challenges the facility faces. This is the first health center to be established in the East Zone, but as we speak, its status remains the same. We are calling on government to, in a way, make it a Polyclinic for us.” Ayeriga said.
He further highlighted the staffing constraints confronting the facility and appealed for urgent intervention.
“Staffing is also a challenge we are calling for help. If the government can make it a Polyclinic so that we have a permanent doctor stationed at the center, it will help prevent referrals to other places like Bolga.” He added.
The Kassena Nankana East Health Center currently serves 13 communities, including Bembisi, Nabilingo, Atibabiisi, and Kurugo, among others.
