Malik Zeliatu, Coordinator of the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) Chapter of the Ladies Society of GNAT, has led a donation drive to promote menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality.
As part of the initiative, Zeliatu, who also serves under the Ghana National Association of Teachers on Campus (GNATOC) and is currently vying for the position of National GNATOC-GNATLAS Coordinator, donated 12 boxes of sanitary towels to the Awe Senior High School and St. John’s Integrated Senior High School. Each school received six boxes of Softcare sanitary towels, with each box containing 12 packs.
Speaking during the donation on Friday, July 11, Zeliatu said the gesture was in response to the challenges many girls face in accessing sanitary products, which can adversely affect their education.
“This donation is to support our girls. Some of them still find it difficult to purchase these sanitary pads,” she said. “I expect that this donation will help ease that burden for some of them.”

Zeliatu expressed gratitude to GNATOC members, regional and district GNAT executives, and other donors who made the outreach possible. She reiterated its commitment to the well-being of the girl child, and ensuring that no girl misses school because of menstruation.
At Awe Senior High School, the Senior House Mistress welcomed the support and assured that the items would be given to girls in need, stressing the importance of such initiatives in maintaining menstrual hygiene and reducing absenteeism among female students.
