CKT UTAS SRC holds handover ceremony to transfer power to new executives

The event marked a symbolic transition of power and a chance to reflect on the past year’s achievements. It featured prayers, speeches, commendations, and the commissioning of projects.

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo has officially handed over leadership to newly elected executives.

The event, which was held on August 14, was attended by students, university officials, and invited dignitaries, and marked a symbolic transition of power and a chance to reflect on the past year’s achievements. It featured prayers, speeches, commendations, and the commissioning of projects.

The outgoing National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) President, Abukari Samuel Tiyumba, described the occasion as one of renewal and continuity.

“It is a day for the student body to reflect on how far we have come, appreciate the achievements of the past year, and commit to building on them for the future.”

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Auphedeous Dangi, commended the outgoing executives for the impactful initiatives. He noted that “they have demonstrated leadership not just in words but through service, action, and tangible results that have made a difference in the lives of students.”

The Special Guest of Honour and Kassena-Nankana West District Chief Executive, Stephen Akurugo Aeke, praised the outgoing SRC for serving during challenging times.

“Leadership is not about titles or recognition, but about service to the people you represent. You must be transparent in everything you do, especially when it comes to financial management, and act with integrity and inclusiveness at all times.”

The Outgoing SRC President, Kofi Barnabas Weja, highlighted achievements such as extending receipts and course registration periods, securing 24-hour library access during exams, and obtaining scholarships for over 50 students.

“we have embarked on several impactful projects in academics, entertainment, and student welfare. Through negotiations, we secured vital concessions that have eased the academic journey for many of our colleagues,” he noted.

The newly sworn SRC President, Alhassan Abdulai, acknowledged the work of his predecessors but stressed that there was still a gap to be filled.

“During my campaign tour, I promised to change the status quo of CKT-UTAS SRC. Among my priorities will be advocating for the reinstatement of receipt exams for continuing students and expanding the SRC Food Bank to better serve those in need.”

The ceremony concluded with the swearing-in of the new executives, the official exit of the outgoing leadership, and the commissioning of two SRC summer huts.
