Reintroduce repetition of non-performing students in pre-tertiary Institutions – Catholic Bishops
According to the Bishops Conference, reintroducing repetition of non-performing students will help promote academic excellence in schools.
The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) has called on the government of Ghana to reinstate the practice of repeating non-performing students in pre-tertiary institutions.
According to the Bishops Conference, reintroducing repetition of non-performing students will help promote academic excellence in schools.
The Bishop made this recommendation after the end of its Second National Catholic Education Forum, held in Koforidua from March 10 to March 15, 2025.
In a statement sighted by Mike FM, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference outlined key recommendations to be delivered to the Ministry of Education for consideration to help improve the standard of education.

Among the recommendations include calls for a review of the Free SHS policy to clarify parental roles and improve educational standards, setting cut-off points for admission into second-cycle institutions to address fallen academic standards and reviewing the double-track system to address its challenges and putting in strategic plans to phase it out within two years among others.
In the statement, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi also bemoaned the rising cases of indiscipline and examination malpractices in schools and the limited support for Technical and Vocational Education Training by stakeholders.
The Forum, which was held on the Theme “Catholic Education for Integral Development: Shaping a Resilient and Inclusive Ghana,” brought together Catholic Bishops, priests, religious, educators, policymakers, traditional leaders, alumni, and development partners, to deliberate on the future of education in Ghana.
