Wenawome Aborah constructs culvert for Paga Nyania and Babile communities

New bridge improves access to healthcare, education and trade for Paga communities

A philanthropist, Wenawome Duriyem Aborah, has constructed a culvert to improve transportation and accessibility for residents of Nyania and Babile, communities within the Paga area of the Kassena-Nankana West District.

The culvert, which links the two communities to the main Paga township, is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, particularly during the rainy season when a stream that runs through the area often cuts off access to the town.

For years, residents have struggled to cross the stream whenever it overflowed, affecting access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and commerce.

Speaking to the media during a visit to the project site, some community members recounted the difficulties they faced before the construction of the bridge.

Augustina Avero, a resident, said the situation often disrupted travel and daily activities.

“Some commuters had to park their motorcycles and vehicles on one side of the stream and cross on foot to access the main town. With the construction of this bridge, that challenge will no longer exist,” she said.

Another resident, Veronica Alhassan, noted that the seasonal flooding caused significant hardship for community members.

“The situation created a lot of discomfort during the rainy season. People were forced to use longer alternative routes to reach the main town, which affected access to healthcare services and education,” she explained.

The residents expressed profound appreciation to Aborah for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to the development of the two communities.

Aborah said he was motivated to undertake the project after witnessing the recurring challenges residents endured during the rainy season.

“Any time the rains set in, it becomes a nightmare for community members. Children are unable to attend school, while vehicles and motorcycles often get stuck, making movement extremely difficult,” he stated.

According to him, the project forms part of his commitment to supporting community development and complementing government efforts in addressing pressing social challenges.

He further appealed to the government and the District Assembly to prioritize the construction and maintenance of inner roads within communities to facilitate easier movement and improve living conditions for residents.
