Historic win: OLL SHS qualifies for National Science and Maths Quiz for first time

The Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ Senior High School (OLL) has qualified for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) national championship for the first time in the school’s history.

OLL Girls SHS, the only all-girls senior high school in Navrongo, earned its spot at the national level after a thrilling contest at the regional qualifiers, where they clinched victory with 29 points.

They edged out perennial contenders Notre Dame Seminary Senior High School, who scored 27 points, while St. John’s Integrated Senior High School placed third with 8 points.

The contest, held as part of the Upper East Regional qualifiers for the NSMQ, saw a tough intellectual battle, but OLL’s team showcased strong composure, critical thinking, and scientific insight throughout all rounds.

The victory marks a historic milestone for the school, which has never before qualified for the national championship since the inception of the competition.

The news sparked widespread celebration, particularly among old students and supporters of the school. Many took to social media to express their pride and joy, hailing the victory as a breakthrough moment for girls’ education and academic competition in the region.

“This is a proud day for OLL. These girls have raised the bar and inspired many others,” wrote an old student on Facebook.

Students of the school celebrated the victory.

Supporters are now rallying behind the team as they prepare to represent the Upper East Region on the national stage, with high hopes that they will continue their strong performance and make an impact at the national level of the prestigious quiz.

The NSMQ, Ghana’s most respected science and mathematics competition for senior high schools, continues to highlight the intellectual capabilities of students across the country while fostering a healthy academic rivalry among schools.
