Coach Zolgo walks from Navrongo to Bolgatanga after losing a bet on Black Stars

Coach Zolgo, in January 2024, vowed to walk from Navrongo to Bolgatanga should the Black Stars fail to win their African Cup of Nations qualifying game against Mozambique on January 22, 2024.

Upper East Regional Soccer talent scout for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Donald Yizura, affectionately called Coach Zolgo has walked from Navrongo to Bolgatanga in fulfilment of a bet on the Black Stars.

Coach Zolgo, in January 2024, vowed to walk from Navrongo to Bolgatanga should the Black Stars fail to win their African Cup of Nations qualifying game against Mozambique on January 22, 2024.

Unfortunately for him, the Black Stars drew the game by two goals apiece, eventually contributing to their inability to qualify for the continental showcase to be held in Morocco this year.

Though it took him a long while to fulfil his side of the bargain, on Friday March 21, 2025, he walked  through the over 30-kilometre journey from Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality to Bolgatanga, the Upper Regional Capital.

The journey, which commenced at 5:00 am, lasted for five hours 46 minutes.

After a successful walk, Coach Zolgo said he was focused on honouring his pledge, saying it has been achieved regardless of the number of months it took him to finally redeem it.

“I don’t look at what people say about me. I promised something and I did it, and I’ve made it. So those who were doubting me, maybe they will go back to their rooms.” He stated.

Coach Zolgo used the opportunity to call on Ghanaians not to lose faith in the national men’s football team and urged all to show the team their love and support.

“Let us support the Black Stars and bring back the love, just as we used to rally behind them years back. He said.

He conveyed his gratitude to all who supported him to embark on the over 30-kilometre walk marathon, especially his mother, whom he said was a great motivation for him.

“My mother has been supportive throughout my journey, I want to thank her and the almighty God for giving me a successful trip; without God’s intervention, I wouldn’t have made it here.” He appreciated.

While some friends and sports enthusiasts from Navrongo and Paga joint him during his journey, he expressed disappointment that he did not receive much support.

“We had wanted more support, more people from Navrongo to follow us, but I have seen that the numbers are not encouraging.” He lamented.
