Taking the mantle, Dominic Anarigide acknowledged the significant challenges facing the company but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome them.
Dominic Anarigide has officially taken over as the Managing Director of the Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR), following a formal handing-over ceremony held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
He succeeded the acting Managing Director Charles Aboyella, who had been at the helm since November 2024.
Anarigide’s appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama in March 2025, was delayed due to legal challenges involving the company and the then embattled Managing Director Dr Benedict Bonaventure Alegibam.
Prior to his appointment, Anarigide served as Deputy Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo Central Constituency.
The ceremony was presided over by the Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga, who also serves as the Board Chairman of ICOUR. The event was attended by company management, staff, and key stakeholders.
In his farewell address, the outgoing MD Aboyella urged staff to rally behind the new leadership for the progress of the company.
“Extend the support and cooperation I enjoyed to the new Managing Director. Let’s tighten our loose nuts and help reset the company.” Aboyella said.
The Regional Minister Atanga, in his remarks, called on the new leadership to revamp the company’s image and performance, noting its importance to Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.
“ICOUR is critical in the President’s agenda to transform Ghana through agriculture. Let’s commit ourselves to the President’s vision and work together to improve food security in the country,” Atanga stated.
He also revealed that government is exploring public-private partnerships to rejuvenate the operations of ICOUR, particularly its management of major irrigation schemes like Tono and Vea.
Taking the mantle, Dominic Anarigide acknowledged the significant challenges facing the company but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome them.
“I pledge my fullest commitment to work in a unified and coordinated manner to get ICOUR back on its feet. Though the task is daunting, I am prepared and will rely on the support of management and farmers to make it happen.” He assured.
ICOUR is a government-owned enterprise tasked with promoting food crop production through the management of organized irrigation schemes in the Upper East Region. The company plays a central role in national efforts to boost agricultural productivity and food security.
