Farmers deserve greater celebration than they currently receive – NDC Communicator

Abuga emphasized that farmers continue to sustain the country's food systems and economy through their hard work and resilience.

Benjamin Biadana Abuga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has lauded Ghanaian farmers for their immense contribution to national development, saying they deserve even greater recognition than they currently receive.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, December 8, Abuga emphasized that farmers continue to sustain the country’s food systems and economy through their hard work and resilience.

“It is important that Farmers’ Day was instituted because farmers are central to the wellbeing of the country and the stability of our economy,” he said. “Celebrating our gallant farmers is only proper and humane. They give so much, and they deserve to be celebrated, possibly even more than we have been doing.”

Abuga further highlighted that the NDC government remains committed to enhancing agricultural productivity, particularly through initiatives such as the Feed Ghana programme.

“Feed Ghana is a laudable initiative by the current government and another promise fulfilled by President Mahama within his first year in office.” He explained.

“The initiative is still at its rudimentary stage, but it has been launched and captured in the national budget. An amount of GH₵1.5 billion has been allocated to support the programme under the government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation agenda.”

According to him, the Feed Ghana initiative is designed to achieve three key objectives, reduce and eventually halt the importation of food products, create jobs for the youth, and ensure the availability of sufficient food to drive Ghana’s economic progress.

“This demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector, and farmers will soon begin to reap the full benefits.” He added.
