What’s your fear of the rerun in Ablekuma North – NDC questions NPP
His comments come in the wake of a July 3 press conference by the NPP, during which the party rejected claims by the EC that there was consensus among stakeholders regarding the rerun.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Maurice Achana, has questioned the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) objection to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun the 2024 parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, July 4, Achana expressed surprise at the NPP’s resistance, suggesting that only the party can explain what he described as its fear of the rerun.
“The NPP is an interesting party. When they are in power, they engage in dubious activities, so when a different party takes over, they assume the same will happen,”
“They connive with state agencies to carry out these acts, and now that they are out of power, they fear the NDC might do the same.” Achana alleged.
His comments come in the wake of a July 3 press conference by the NPP, during which the party rejected claims by the EC that there was consensus among stakeholders regarding the rerun.
The Electoral Commission had earlier announced that it would rerun the parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency, citing unresolved irregularities from the 2024 general elections.
Achana, however, dismissed fears of any retaliatory actions by the NDC, stating that the current government is focused on national development and resetting the country on a new path of transparency and progress.
“The NDC is not interested in repeating the wrongs of the NPP. We are on a different agenda, one aimed at national development,” he said.
He further criticized the leadership of the Electoral Commission, stating that the EC Chairperson and her deputies have not upheld the integrity of the electoral process.
“That is why we’ve been consistent in calling for their removal. How can the EC accept scanned pink sheets from the NPP as valid evidence for declaring results?” Achana questioned.
