The donation marks yet another milestone in the ongoing partnership between Ghana and Germany in strengthening defence cooperation, enhancing security, and building sustainable military infrastructure.

The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) has handed over a newly constructed Dog Kennel Facility and a Toyota Hiace van to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), at a brief ceremony at the Air Force Base in Tamale on Tuesday April 29.
The facility, established to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Military Working Dog Programme, is expected to significantly bolster Ghana’s security architecture by supporting advanced training and deployment of working dogs in areas such as detection, tracking, and base defence.

Speaking at the ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, received the donation on behalf of the GAF and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Head of Mission and the entire GAFTAG team for their continuous support and commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
He highlighted the growing importance of military working dogs in contemporary security operations, emphasizing their role in detection and tracking to enhance force protection and base defence capabilities.

Head of Mission, GAFTAG, Lt Col Andreas Heselschwerdt, also addressed the gathering, expressing pride in the longstanding partnership between GAFTAG and the GAF. He noted that the Dog Kennel Facility would greatly contribute to operational effectiveness and encouraged commanders to acknowledge the vital role of military dogs in achieving mission success.

Commander of the Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Matthias Awuah, also commended GAFTAG for their generous donation. He remarked that the event signified more than just a handover—it was a celebration of shared values and collaboration.
The donation marks yet another milestone in the ongoing partnership between Ghana and Germany in strengthening defence cooperation, enhancing security, and building sustainable military infrastructure.
