
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a government allocation of GH₵40 million to support infrastructure development in four public universities across Ghana.
Each university is set to receive GH₵10 million as seed funding, with the disbursement expected before the end of the next quarter.
The announcement was made on Saturday, June 21, during the 5th Congregation ceremony of the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo.
Accprding to the Minister, the beneficiary institutions include:
- C K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS)
- University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
- University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
- Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS)

The minister said, “we made an allocation of 40 million Ghana cedis for four universities, which we describe in the formula as seed money. C.K. Tedam University will benefit from 10 million,”
He confirmed that the funds will be sourced from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and emphasized the government’s commitment to prompt disbursement.
“This release will be done for you before the end of the next quarter of this year, so it’s not just a pledge. We will honour it for you to use it to support your infrastructure development,” he assured.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving academic freedom and ensuring that universities remain autonomous in their management.
“We will respect the letter and spirit of the Constitution, not to interfere in the management and running of universities. That will not be part of President Mahama’s reset agenda,” he noted.
The minister indicated that the initiative is part of broader educational reforms aimed at strengthening higher education infrastructure and governance, under the current administration’s renewed focus on quality and access.
The congregation brought together academic staff, graduates, parents, and dignitaries from across the region.
