GSS bribery report validates Mahama’s anti-corruption drive — Benjamin Abuga

Abuga stated that the report affirms the impact of President Mahama’s firm stance and repeated caution to his appointees regarding issues of corruption.

A Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Benjamin Biadana Abuga, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as exemplary and trustworthy leadership, one he believes has significantly contributed to the decline in bribery and corruption as captured in the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) Wave 2 Report.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday November 24, Abuga stated that the report affirms the impact of President Mahama’s firm stance and repeated caution to his appointees regarding issues of corruption.

According to him, the President’s principled leadership style has restored public confidence and created the conditions necessary for reducing bribery incidents.

“President Mahama is an embodiment of trustworthy leadership. That alone sends a strong signal to anyone serving under his administration that corruption will not be tolerated. He consistently reminded his appointees that woe betide anyone who gets entangled in a scandal under his government.” Abuga said.

He contrasted this with the record of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he accused of allowing corruption to flourish during his tenure.

“These are the clear and stern words expected of a president, not one whose appointees are implicated in corruption and the first reaction is to clear them. Not a president who would stretch out his hand to take bribery.” He alleged.

Abuga further argued that even during his earlier term in office, President Mahama demonstrated a strong commitment to fighting corruption by allowing due process to take its course, even when it affected members of his own administration.

“He sacrificed his own people for change. People faced the law, people were punished, and money was retrieved. That is committed leadership. That is what reduces corruption and bribery.” He stressed.

He concluded by stating that President Mahama has set a clear standard for accountability and urged Ghanaians to support his efforts to strengthen the fight against corruption.
