ICU Urges Government to Invest in Agriculture to Tackle Unemployment

General Secretary of ICU, Morgan Ayawine, emphasized the need for an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, particularly in the agricultural sector.

The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has called on the government to prioritize investment in the agriculture sector to address the long-standing issue of unemployment in the country.

General Secretary of ICU, Morgan Ayawine, emphasized the need for an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the ICU’s Upper East Regional Delegates Conference in Bolgatanga on March 28, 2025, Ayawine highlighted the potential of revamping the Pwalugu tomato factory and constructing the Pwalugu multi-purpose dam to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

“The factory was intended to provide jobs and boost the agricultural sector, however, it has been abandoned over the years, with successive governments failing to reactivate.” Ayawine said.

Investing in agriculture can be a game-changer for the Upper East Region, as it has the potential to create stable employment for millions of people.
