Jacob Aka-eri Abagre Confirmed as DCE for Bolgatanga East

Aka-eri was confirmed by a near-unanimous support from the district assembly, pocketing 23 out of 24 votes and one vote rejected.

Jacob Aka-eri Abagre, the Bolgatanga East District Chief Executive nominee, has been confirmed.

Aka-eri was confirmed by a near-unanimous support from the district assembly, pocketing 23 out of 24 votes and one vote rejected.

At his swearing-in ceremony, Aka-eri expressed deep gratitude for the confidence placed in him and committed to addressing the district’s complex challenges through collaborative, transparent, and community-driven governance.

“The people of Bolgatanga East deserve leadership that listens and acts. We face real challenges — from youth unemployment and infrastructure gaps to climate vulnerabilities and limited access to healthcare and education. But with vision, strategy, and teamwork, we can turn these challenges into opportunities.” He said.

Aka-eri laid out his vision for a vibrant and inclusive Bolgatanga East where development is equitable, and no community is left behind. He promised that every child would have the opportunity to thrive, women would be empowered, and youth would find meaningful employment.

As part of his strategic focus, the new DCE announced four thematic priorities aimed at promoting participatory governance: deepening decentralization, engaging local communities directly in planning, enhancing transparency, and ensuring timely implementation of development projects. He emphasized that his office would remain open to all, welcoming input from every segment of society.

Aka-eri pledged to work closely with agricultural experts to support the district’s large farming population, and assist in the provision of modern equipment, access to technology and markets and a significant investment in agricultural extension services, irrigation systems, and agro-processing. These efforts, he stated, are intended to help farmers shift from subsistence to commercial-scale production.

In a show of support, Donatus Atanga Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Minister, urged assembly members to rally behind the new DCE, emphasizing that stable and effective local leadership is essential for coordinating government programs and ensuring timely delivery of public services.

“Local governance remains at the heart of our national development agenda,” Hon. Akamugri noted, “but our assembly members must be recognized and supported if we are to fully realize decentralization.”
