Health authorities confirm full recovery of two Mpox patients in  Upper East Region

The cases, first detected in late July, were swiftly managed with effective interventions to prevent further spread.

Health authorities in the Upper East Region have confirmed that the two Monkeypox (Mpox) cases recorded in the Kassena Nankana West District have fully recovered, easing public concerns about a possible outbreak.

Richard Awafo, a Disease Control Officer at the Kassena Nankana West Health Directorate, disclosed this during an interview on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, August 21. He said the cases, first detected in late July, were swiftly managed with effective interventions to prevent further spread.

“It was around the 26th of July that the samples were taken, and on the 30th, the results came out confirming the two positive cases. Since then, we conducted contact tracing, placed the victims under medication, and ensured all contacts tested negative. With the measures we put in place, there was no further spread in the communities.” Awafo explained.

He noted that the patients were treated under home-based management, kept in isolation, and closely monitored until they fully recovered.

“Currently, they are doing well. When we discovered the cases, we asked them to confine themselves to their homes while on medication, and through this approach, they fully recovered without further spread.” He added.

Christiana Ayichuru, a Public Health Promotion Officer with the Directorate, also stressed the importance of vigilance and early detection. She urged health workers to continue monitoring suspected cases while encouraging the public to promptly report symptoms to health facilities.

“When we identify these cases early, the spread will not be significant, so early reporting is key.” She emphasised.

The symptoms of Monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle and back pain, swollen lymph nodes, and skin rashes that appear as pimples or blisters.
