Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly sets September 6 to observe National Sanitation Day

The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly has scheduled Saturday, September 6, 2025, for a major clean-up exercise in line with the government’s National Sanitation Day Agenda.

The announcement was made during a planning committee meeting at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall on Friday, August 22.

Addressing the media on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Engineer, Musah Paul Isaac, said the exercise was in direct response to the President’s directive that all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies observe a National Sanitation Day on the first Saturday of every month.

“As we are all aware, the President of the Republic, a few months ago, launched the National Sanitation Day and directed all assemblies to undertake this important exercise. As an Assembly, we have set up a committee made up of various stakeholders to strategise towards the maiden exercise on September 6.” Musah explained.

He emphasised that sanitation was a shared responsibility, calling for broad public participation to make the exercise successful.

“Sanitation is health. Our lives depend on the environment, and because of human activities around us, the Assembly alone cannot do it,” he noted.

According to the plan, strategic areas within the Municipality, including the main drains, the old and new markets, and the lorry station, will be prioritized. The exercise will also be replicated in communities outside the main town, led by local leaders.

On behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Musah appealed to residents, institutions, businesses, departments, and security agencies to fully participate.

“On September 6, we are appealing to everybody to come out and put our hands together to clean the Municipality. Let us make Kassena Nankana the cleanest in the Upper East Region,” he urged.

The National Sanitation Day initiative was relaunched earlier this year by the government to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health across the country.
