Mahama talks big and does little – Bawa Zakari

Bawa's comments come after President Mahama's Thank You Tour of the Upper East Region, where he promised to prioritize the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam project.

A member of the Communications Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Navrongo central, Bawa Zakari, has criticized President Mahama for making promises without implementing them.

Bawa’s comments come after President Mahama’s Thank You Tour of the Upper East Region, where he promised to prioritize the Pwalugu Multi-purpose dam project.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show, Bawa described President Mahama’s promise as a “mere political gimmick.” He argued that the President’s words are not backed by action, citing the lack of budget allocation for the project in 2025.

“We believe that it is just part of those political gimmicks where he meets you and tells you what you want to hear, I believe that in 2027 running up to the next election, in 2028, you will still ask the question why the project has not been completed, he talks big and doesn’t implement anything,”

“There is nowhere in the 2025 budget where the President mentioned the multi-purpose dam project; if indeed this project is dear to his heart, it should have been captured explicitly in the budget.” he added.

However, Benjamin Biadana Abuga, a representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), countered Bawa’s claims. Abuga explained that the 2025 budget only represents the government’s intended spending for the year and not the entire four-year mandate of the Mahama presidency.

He emphasized that the Mahama government is committed to executing the project.

“The NPP needs to understand that a budget is a plan for a year; even beyond the year, the budget is reviewed at the mid-part of the year.”
