NAHSAG commends Mahama for streamlining payment of trainee allowances

The association says the development is a significant milestone that will address the long-standing issue of delays in payment of allowances.

The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has extended their appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his efforts to streamline the payment of trainee allowances.

President Mahama, during his “Thank You Tour” in Tamale, announced that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has taken over the disbursement of allowances for nursing and teacher trainees.

Payments of nursing and teacher trainee allowances will now be integrated into the general payroll
system and disbursed concurrently with the monthly salaries of public sector workers.

The association in a press statement issued on Sunday March 23, 2025, signed by the it’s President, Fabian Pinto Gaku says the development is a significant milestone that will address the long-standing issue of delays in payment of allowances.

“NAHSAG expresses its heartful appreciation to His Excellency the President and the Government of Ghana for taking this proactive step to prioritise the welfare of health students and teacher trainees. The statement reads.

The student union added that the announcement from the President will improve their training conditions.

“Financial stability of nursing trainees would be enhanced, enabling them to focus more on their studies and practical training. ” They said.
