Maurice Danwadaani Achana, a communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency has thrown his support behind the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following the latter’s unannounced visit to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday April 25, 2025, Achana said the Minister’s surprise visit was timely and necessary, as it helped expose critical challenges facing the health facility.
“The Minister has done nothing wrong when you consider the substance of his visit. He visited to have first-hand experience about reported challenges faced at the hospital,” Achana stated.
He further encouraged more unannounced visits by high-profile public officials to institutions, particularly within the health sector, as a way of improving accountability and keeping workers attentive to their duties.
While praising the intent behind the visit, Achana acknowledged that some aspects of the engagement could have been handled better.
“The visit was a good move, but some of the excesses could have been avoided,” he noted, referring to public interactions with hospital staff during the Minister’s tour.
Achana also joined growing calls for striking doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to return to work, urging them to give dialogue a chance as the Minister seeks to address their concerns.
