Upper East Regional Minister urges Chinese investors to invest in agro-industrial and irrigation
Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga is seeking Chinese investment in agro-processing, irrigation, renewable energy and industrial development under the PEARL Framework.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Atanga Donatus, has intensified efforts to attract strategic investment to the region as part of plans to establish an integrated agro-industrial and irrigation corridor in Northern Ghana.
The Minister is leading an investment mission to China from September 13 to 20, 2026, under the PEARL Framework of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council. The delegation has engaged Chinese companies and government representatives to explore opportunities in technology transfer, industrial development, renewable energy, modern agriculture, poultry production and processing, water management and industrial park development.
The Minister met Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, to brief him on the mission and highlight the Upper East Region’s investment potential. He called for continued support from the Ghana Embassy in China to facilitate partnerships with credible Chinese investors, stressing the need for capital, technology, expertise and job opportunities.
The delegation also engaged several Chinese companies. Discussions with Dongfang Electronics focused on renewable energy and the possibility of establishing a solar production or assembly facility in the region.
With Jinghua Company Limited, the delegation explored water-meter manufacturing and modern water-management technologies to support irrigation and efficient water distribution.
Engagements with Ruihe Trade Company Limited centred on poultry feed production, modern poultry farming, processing and value addition, with the Minister emphasising the need to develop integrated agricultural value chains to create jobs and improve food security.
Discussions with Linyi Trade Company Limited explored the possible establishment of an industrial park and China Mall to promote manufacturing, processing, trade and commercial activities.
The Minister also engaged Fox Company Limited on technology and innovation, highlighting the role of modern technology in agriculture, industry, commerce and public service delivery.
Beyond private-sector engagements, the delegation met Chinese government representatives, including officials linked to the Ministry of Commerce, to explore institutional cooperation and investment opportunities.
The Minister called for stronger Ghana-China cooperation, stressing that the region seeks not only investment capital but also technology, skills development, modern production systems, irrigation expertise and manufacturing capacity.
The broader vision is to link farming, irrigation, processing, manufacturing, storage, transportation and marketing to transform the Upper East Region’s agricultural potential into sustainable economic opportunities, factories, jobs and technology-driven businesses, particularly for young people.
