Navrongo: Tricycle mate loses leg in gory accident

A horrific accident that occurred in Bonia in the Navrongo municipality, has severed the leg of a tricycle mate.
The accident happened on Sunday, March 23, 2025, around 6:30 pm near the ICOUR premises.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the tricycle, with registration number M-24-U.E 7511, was traveling from Chuchuliga to Navrongo township, when the driver lost control and crashed into a nearby culvert. This caused the tricycle to somersault into a pit.
When rescuers rushed to the scene of the crash, the mate – believed to be in his early 30s – had lost his right leg. The leg was instantly chopped off from the knee due to the impact of the crash.
Rescuers managed to extricate the victims from the mangled tricycle and rushed them to the War Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Road diversion
Since the diversion of the Navrongo – Chuchuliga – Sandema highway through Bonia, numerous accidents have occurred on the stretch, resulting in injuries and loss of lives.
The heavy traffic on the diversion has also plagued the community with thick dust, raising concerns of respiratory infections.
Residents of Bonia, who continue to bare the brunt of the diversion, said an early completion of the bridge would curb the reoccurring accidents.
They are, therefore, appealing to authorities to swiftly complete the reconstruction work and redirect the traffic to the main highway.
