Systems Developer urges learning and responsible use of AI tools

Tonon Abdul-Shafiu Mahmud, a Systems Developer and Audio-Visual Technician, has urged professionals to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly to enhance their career growth and remain relevant in the rapidly evolving world of work.
Speaking during a session on the responsible use of AI tools at a two-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Mainstreaming Gender in Ghanaian Institutions of Higher Education (MAGGIE) Project at the C K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), Mahmud emphasized that those who fail to learn how AI works risk being replaced by it.
“If you decide not to use AI, your job will eventually be taken. But if you choose to learn alongside it and understand how it works, you’ll be one step ahead. In that case, AI becomes a tool to help you progress in your career rather than replace you,” he stated.
Mahmud explained that AI is designed to automate repetitive tasks, uncover patterns that might take humans days to detect, and reduce workloads, ultimately boosting efficiency and productivity.
“The future we are looking at is one where integrating AI into our daily lives leads to increased productivity. AI is here to help us, not to take from us,” he added.
The workshop, held under the theme “Advancing Women in Leadership,” brought together both male and female participants in various leadership roles. Sessions focused on topics such as Leadership and Confidence Building, Work-Life Balance, Breaking Institutional Barriers, and The Responsible Use of AI Tools.
Participants described the two-day training as eye-opening and transformative.
“Honestly, this program has been very impactful. We have no regrets attending. I never knew AI could be used in so many ways, and this morning’s session was simply amazing. We hope management continues to organize such programs to build our careers,” one participant shared enthusiastically.
The MAGGIE Project continues to champion gender mainstreaming and capacity building in higher education institutions across Ghana, with a focus on empowering women to lead effectively in the digital age.
