Musician Facetwo calls for the preservation of Ghanaian local languages
Musician and cultural enthusiast, Abakuri Godwin Bazentum, popularly known in showbiz as Facetwo, has called for renewed efforts to preserve Ghana’s local languages, describing them as essential to cultural identity.
Speaking on Voices of Change on Saturday, February 7, Musician Facetwo calls for the preservation of Ghanaian local languages
“Personally, I have vowed to promote the Kasem language. When you do a song in Kasem, people feel you are authentic. Your language is what identifies you with a certain people, and that is very important.” He said.
Facetwo also advised young people to avoid adopting negative social practices that are alien to African culture, including indiscipline and disrespectful behaviour, particularly on social media.
“We were all brought up to respect people, especially the elderly, but today some people open social media accounts just to insult others. That is not who we are.” He noted.
He further warned against what he described as “mental slavery” driven by the uncritical imitation of foreign lifestyles, including certain dressing styles, movie influences, and behavioural trends, urging the youth to remain proud of their cultural heritage.
