NDC’s Maurice Achana lauds 2026 budget as people-centered and solutions-driven

Achana commended the Finance Minister for what he called a “thorough and empathetic” budget presentation.

Maurice Danwadaane Achana, a member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has praised the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presented on Thursday by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, describing it as a document that prioritizes the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday November 14, Achana commended the Finance Minister for what he called a “thorough and empathetic” budget presentation.

“We saw a Minister who understood what his people were going through, one who empathized with his people,” he said. “Governance is about solving the needs of the people, and that was clearly evident in yesterday’s presentation.”

Achana contrasted Dr.Forson’s approach with what he described as “performative” presentations under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“We have moved away from a minister who would pretentiously dress in white to deceive the people of Ghana and ultimately put his hands in their purse by giving them a haircut,” he argued. “We are no longer seeing a minister pretending to be an angel or a pastor by quoting Bible verses.”

According to him, the budgetary allocations to key initiatives, including the 24-Hour Economy, the Women’s Development Bank, the Big Push industrial agenda and the establishment of Farmers’ Service Centres, demonstrate a strategic effort to address the nation’s most pressing challenges and support long-term growth.

Achana also criticized the NPP for what he described as the “distressed” state of the economy the party left behind.

“We came and met an economy that was on its knees. All rating agencies had downgraded us, which meant we could not access both foreign and domestic markets. Nobody trusted the then government enough to do business with them. But today, the economy has been rated B-, positive and with a stable outlook.”

He expressed optimism that the 2026 budget will restore confidence, stimulate economic recovery and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
