The Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM) has presented a cash donation of GH¢20,000 to Dr. Ama Antwiwaa Adu-Appiah in recognition of her decision to accept posting to the Kassena-Nankana West District Hospital in Paga, where she currently serves as the facility’s only medical doctor.
The presentation was made on Thursday, July 16, during a courtesy visit by the leadership and members of the Movement to the hospital.
Presenting the donation, the Vice Chairman of the Paga Youth Movement, Frederick Wugaa, expressed the association’s profound appreciation to Dr. Adu-Appiah for accepting the challenge of working in Paga despite the difficulties associated with serving in an underserved area.
He said the doctor’s arrival had brought renewed hope and excitement to both the hospital and the wider Paga community.
“We have come with this small token to express our appreciation and happiness for your decision to come and serve our people. Your sacrifice and commitment mean a great deal to us,” he said.
Wugaa further announced that the Movement had mobilised an additional GH¢10,000 to renovate the hospital’s consultation rooms, following concerns raised by management over the condition of the facility.
Management of the Kassena-Nankana West District Hospital received the support and expressed gratitude to the Paga Youth Movement for its generosity and for motivating staff to continue delivering quality healthcare services.
Receiving the donation, Dr. Ama Antwiwaa Adu-Appiah thanked the Movement for the warm reception and encouragement, describing the gesture as both humbling and motivating.
She paid special tribute to the hospital’s management and staff, saying their support and sense of teamwork had made it possible for her to remain at post.
“The staff here are like a family. They have been the reason I am still here, and I will always cherish the support they have given me,” she said.
Dr. Adu-Appiah stressed that the recognition should not be limited to her alone but should also celebrate the dedication and resilience of the entire hospital staff.
“I hope the Paga Youth Movement will not see only me as the heroine but will appreciate the whole hospital as an institution because every member of staff contributes to the care we provide.”
She also pledged to share the GH¢20,000 donation with members of the hospital staff as a gesture of appreciation for their teamwork and commitment to serving the people of Paga.
