NDC Deputy Communications Officer dismisses claims of intimidation against NPP supporters

Alhassan Suwaidu Abubakar says government actions are aimed at ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law, not suppressing dissent.

The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Alhassan Suwaidu Abubakar, has rejected claims that the NDC is using political power to intimidate citizens and supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, actions taken by the government and state institutions should not be misconstrued as intimidation, but rather as efforts to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, May 15, Abubakar urged Ghanaians, especially public figures and political actors, to be mindful of their utterances, warning that irresponsible comments could lead to legal consequences.

He argued that allegations of intimidation are often tactics employed by political opponents to evade responsibility for their actions.

“When you are a political figure, you must account for your stewardship. So when you are called for accountability and you try to sway or abscond from accountability, the law will come for you,” he stated.

Abubakar further emphasized that the government remains committed to upholding justice and ensuring that individuals found culpable of unlawful acts are dealt with in accordance with the law.

He maintained that the NDC government has no interest in suppressing dissenting views but is focused on promoting accountability, transparency, and responsible public conduct.
