NPP’s David Yorose defends ‘Yen Suro Ahunahuna’ protest, accuses NDC of intimidation

He described the protest as a justified action to highlight what he called the harassment of NPP members by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) using state institutions.

David Yorose, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has defended the party’s “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration held on Tuesday, September 23.

He described the protest as a justified action to highlight what he called the harassment of NPP members by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) using state institutions.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday September 24, Yorose said the demonstration was necessary to send a strong message to the Mahama-led administration.

According to him, the government’s promise to “reset the country” has instead been characterized by intimidation of political opponents.

“Your promise was that when you come to power you were going to reset the country. Now you’ve come to power, is that the resetting we are looking for, No. So that is why the youth wing of the NPP came out yesterday to say we don’t fear their threats.” He stated.

Yorose also accused the NDC of hypocrisy, arguing that its members engaged in similar actions in the past without facing sanctions. He insisted that justice must not be applied selectively to favor one political side over the other.

He cited the Akwatia by-election as an example, alleging that NDC’s Chief Azorka assaulted an NPP vice chairman but was quickly granted bail the same day. In contrast, he claimed, NPP members such as Paul Adom-Otchere, Chairman Wontumi, and Abronye DC had been detained, tortured, and subjected to what he called huge bail conditions under similar circumstances.

The NPP communicator maintained that the youth wing will continue to resist what it sees as unfair treatment. He stressed that the demonstration was not just about political expression, but also a stand for fairness and equality before the law.
