The meeting was to formally introduce the group’s new leadership and seek collaboration in addressing pressing needs in Paga, the district capital.
The executive team of the Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM), a community development-focused group in Paga, has paid a courtesy visit to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly, Stephen Aeke Akurugo. The visit is part of a series of engagements with development partners in the district.
The meeting, which was held at the assembly premises on Wednesday, August 12, was to formally introduce the group’s new leadership and seek collaboration in addressing pressing needs in Paga, the district capital.
Led by its Chairman, Wenawome Aborah, the group congratulated the DCE on his nomination and early successes in office, particularly his role in organizing the recent Panafest and Emancipation Day celebrations at the Pikworo Slave Camp.

PAYOM assured the DCE of its commitment to supporting socio-economic transformation in the district while appealing for intervention in key areas, including education, health, security, business development, road access, combating drug abuse, water scarcity, and sanitation.
“We came to introduce ourselves and then to make ourselves available if the need be, that your office needs our assistance in any way that you can call on us, since we are all working in the interest of the community.” Aborah stated.
PAYOM highlighted the urgent need to complete the government’s Agenda 111 hospital project in Paga, as well as the borderisation of Paga Senior High School (PASS) and the reconstruction of its girls’ dormitory, which was destroyed by fire.
“The Agenda 111 is a big facility that we want to knock on your door to also voice out when the need arises for them to consider it so that we have that facility, if the opportunity comes the Paga Senior High School that is a day school should be made bording, for some time now the girls’ dormitory that was gutted by fire has not been attended to.” He added

Other demands included establishing a National Health Insurance Scheme office, an ECG pay point, an animal market, and a task force to enforce sanitation compliance.
In response, Stephen Aeke Akurugo commended PAYOM for its positive impact on the Paga community and pledged his support for collaborative development efforts.
“Paga Youth Movement is one of the most vibrant youth groups, actively driving development. Keep up the good work.” Akurugo said.

He also tasked the group with leading the upcoming National Sanitation Day program at the district level.
“I want to task the Paga Youth Movement that we will soon start sanitation day activities, and I want to charge you to champion it the sanitation situation in Paga is not good.”
He assured the group that the Assembly would prioritize their concerns, noting that work on some of the issues was already underway.
“I have noted almost all the concerns that we have raised – access route, the girls’ dormitory, Paga SHS boarding, Agenda 111, water issues and all the ECG pay points, works on some are already in progress.” He assured.
In addition to meeting the DCE, PAYOM engaged with other district stakeholders, including the Ghana Immigration Service. The group is also scheduled to meet with the District Education Directorate, Paga Hospital, and the Customs Division on Thursday August 14.
