Awesco: Professor Amikuzuno urges discipline and stakeholder engagement to enhance academic excellence

His lecture emphasised the critical role of discipline, parental involvement, and active stakeholder engagement in achieving academic excellence.

Professor Joseph Amikuzuno, the former Principal of St. John Bosco’s College of Education, has underscored the indispensable role of discipline, parental support, and broad stakeholder involvement in improving academic performance at Awe Senior High Technical School (Awesco).

Speaking as the guest lecturer at the school’s 10th Speech and Prize-Giving Day held on Saturday, 29th November 2025, Professor Amikuzuno stressed that academic excellence extends far beyond examination success.

He urged students, teachers, and parents to embrace 21st-century learning and life skills as essential pillars of quality education.

“If you see a very good building, know that the foundation of that building is discipline. Academic excellence is the fruit, but discipline is the seed,” he said, stressing that discipline is the core driver of sustained academic achievement.

The respected educationist warned that without discipline, learners risk failure both academically and in life.

“Discipline is the foundation of academic excellence. If you are not disciplined, you are set for failure, not just academically, but in life,” he stressed.

Professor Amikuzuno also stressed the critical responsibility of parents in shaping the behaviour, character, and learning habits of their children.

“We as parents are the first teachers of our children. We train them to be respectful, obedient, and humble. It is not enough to send them to school. We must create a good environment at home to reinforce learning and discipline,” he noted.

Professor Amikuzuno concluded by urging the school to develop a strategic plan to guide resource mobilisation and institutional growth.
