
The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Aworigo, has urged students in the area to take their studies seriously and have trust in themselves.
Aworigo said education is important and would help the students to shape their lives and communities.
Speaking at the 68th Independent Day municipal celebration in Kologo, Aworigo advised the students to aim higher and not relent in their efforts to excel in life.
“You have to take your learning seriously. Play, but at the same time, don’t lose focus on your studies. It is what will change your lives. You must first of all begin to know who you are, what you want to be, and work towards it.” He added

Prior to the Independence Day celebration, Aworigo initiated an essay competition for Junior and Senior High Schools in the area. The competition, now earmarked to become an annual event, is aimed at improving the reading skills of students.
The competition enjoyed participation from hundreds of students from both private and public junior and senior high schools in the municipality. Students who performed outstandingly well were presented with prizes at the celebration.
The overall awardee in the Junior high school category took home a tablet, 10 exercise books, a school bag, six packs of Pepsodent toothpaste and a T-shirt. The winner of the Senior High School category went home with a brand-new laptop, 10 exercise books, a school bag, six packs of Pepsodent toothpaste and a T-shirt.
The other awardees were also given consolation prizes such as exercise books, Pepsodent toothpastes, school bags and T-shirts.
Some of the awardees who spoke to Mike FM expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the initiative and appealed for its continuity.
“It would help us to improve on our essay write ups and this would boost our confidence in English essay writing” Awentuima Sebastian.

For his part, the Chief of the Kologo traditional area, Naaba Clifford Asobayire II, appealed to the government to establish a Senior High School in the area.
Naba Asobayire II, said the establishment of a second cycle school would help tackle issues such as teenage pregnancies and early marriages in the area. He stated that the community in 2018 initiated steps to build a day school but initiatuve did not see the light of day due to lack of support.
The 68th Independence Day municipal event took place in Kologo. The event had in attendance the chief and elders of Kologo, municipal coordinating director, municipal education director, heads of schools and students.
