Three-year-old girl allegedly defiled by a 27-year-old in Korania, suspect remains on the run

A three-year-old girl has allegedly been defiled in Korania in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.

The Divisional Chief of Korania, Pe John Tiburu, disclosed this to Mike FM at the sidelines of a two-day anti-child marriage workshop in Navrongo. He said he first heard of the case through his elders and health staff in the community on Tuesday, September 23.
“I was away yesterday for the programme at the research centre, and my phone was off. This morning, my elder and the head nurse at the CHPS compound called to inform me that someone has defiled a three-year-old girl and he is on the run.” He said.
Pe Tiburu added that the child had been taken to a health facility and that a report had already been made to the police. He stressed that the matter would not be treated lightly and promised to ensure the
“When I go back to the community, I will call my elders and find out the residence of the rapist so that I’ll take him on to face the rigours of the law. We are fighting against early child marriages and other abuses, and you cannot be destroying that. This will serve as a deterrent to the community.” He stated.
