The Congress, which serves as a platform to review the past football season and outline activities for the upcoming one, brought together club representatives, administrators, and football enthusiasts across the region.

The Upper East Regional Football Association (UERFA) has held its 15th Ordinary Session of Congress at the Regional House of Chiefs Conference Hall in Bolgatanga, with a strong call for unity among football stakeholders in the region.

The Congress, which serves as a platform to review the past football season and outline activities for the upcoming one, brought together club representatives, administrators, and football enthusiasts across the region.

Addressing participants, the Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Salifu Shaibu Zida, urged football administrators and fans to foster unity and collaboration for the continuous growth and development of football in the region.

“Unity and togetherness will grow and develop football in the region.” He said

The event was graced by the Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, who also serves as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association, Samuel Aboabire. Also in attendance were the Founder of the Alagumgube Group,  Gabriel Agambire, representatives of Division Two and Division Three clubs, and members of the Regional League Board.

This season, 24 clubs will be grouped into three zones across the region to compete for qualification into the National Division One League.

Among the key decisions announced at the Congress include:

  • Zonal League Winners will receive trophies and medals—three clubs will be honored as champions of Zones 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
  • The league structure will now have a single zone format, eliminating the previous sub-zones.
  • Individual awards will be introduced, including Best Goalkeeper, Goal King, and Overall Best Player, with an MVP recognized after every match day.
  • From the 2026/27 season, a new competition dubbed the FA Cup will be introduced, allowing Third Division teams to compete alongside Second Division teams, with the winner earning qualification to the MTN FA Cup.
  • Clubs contributing three or more players to the regional U-19 team—which will represent the region at the MTN Elite U-19 Regional Championship in Prampram—will have their league fixtures rescheduled to accommodate player participation.
  • Referee training programs will be organized ahead of the league’s commencement to enhance officiating standards.

The Division Two League is scheduled to kick off on October 31, 2025.
