73 illegal miners, including foreigners, arrested in Tilli forest

A joint operation by the military and police in the Upper East Region has led to the arrest of 66 illegal miners at the Tilli forest reserve in the Zebilla District.

Among those arrested are 38 Ghanaians, 26 Togolese, and 2 Burkinabes. These individuals were found engaging in illegal mining activities in one of the largest forest reserves in the region, which is home to wildlife species such as elephants.
The operation was carried out following a request from the paramount chief of Sakote, who had called for assistance in dealing with the environmental damage caused by illegal miners in the area.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, expressed support for the operation, noting the importance of protecting the forest and its wildlife.
