Pope Francis was a blessing to humanity – Speaker Bagbin

Since the announcement of his passing, messages of condolences have been made by world leaders around the world commiserating with the Catholic Church.

The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has described Pope Francis, the late Catholic Pontiff, as a ‘blessing to humanity.

The Speaker in a Facebook post said the Pope’s death, which was announced by the Vatican on Monday April 21, 2025, is a blow to Catholic faithfuls across the globe.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17th December 1936, died aged 88 on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Vatican.

Speaker Bagbin, while mourning the religious leader, wrote, “Pope Francis just celebrated the sacred triduum with us, the flock and departed so soon after. This is a blow to many faithful, but God knows best. It shall be well with our souls.”

He added that the life of the Pope is worth celebrating, considering his contribution to humanity.

Pope Francis, described by many as a Leader who prioritises humility, mercy, and dialogue, with a focus on the poor and social justice, was at the helm of affairs in the Catholic Church for 12 years from 2013 to 2025.

President John Mahama in a similar post attested to the late pontiffs compassion and commitment to Social Justice, also, former Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia described Pope Francis as a ‘Man of unwavering peace and compassion.
